Tatya Tope was a rebellion freedom fighter who fought wars with the Britishers at the time of the revolt of 1857. Tatya Tope is one of the freedom fighters along with Rani Lakshmi Bai, Mangal Pandey, Babu Kunwar Singh, etc who sacrificed their lives in a struggle with the Britishers. Tatya Tope was very courageous as he fought as many as 150 wars with the Britishers.

He also attacked them most of the time and tried to recapture the lost reign of Jhansi, Kanpur, etc. Tatya Tope was also good at guerrilla warfare tactics. He used this tactic to defeat Britishers many times; he became the second name of terror in the British mindset.

10) Tatya Tope was betrayed by his friend Maan Singh and was defeated by General Napier’s forces; he was executed on 18th April 1857.

10) He was honored in Raj-Sabha in the court of Peshwa by presenting him with a gem-gilded sword.


Tatya Tope helped many people in his battle against the Britishers, he helped the queen of Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai and nana sahib to regain and recapture their territories. Since he was expert guerrilla warfare, by this method he always tricked the Britishers and defeated them in most of the battle. Tatya Tope also was a very brave fighter who never surrendered in front of the Britishers and always fought against them till his last breath and for Indian independence.
