Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel had born on 31 October 1875 in the Nadiad district in Gujarat. His father Jhaverbhai Patel was a farmer and his mother Laad Bai was a house-wife. Patel was a hard-working boy since his childhood, was honest and a scholar in his school’s days.

Due to the weak economic condition of his family, Vallabhbhai refused to go to school and college and used to study hard at home. He went on to study barrister from London and started practicing it in Ahmadabad. From the Kheda struggle of 1918, he started his contribution to the Indian freedom struggle.

He dreamed of tying India in the thread of unity and making it free. After 1949, he became the first Home Minister of independent India. Sardar Patel transformed the Indian Civil Services (ICS) and made it Indian Administrative Services (IAS). His priority as Home Minister was to unite the indigenous princely states in India. He did it without shedding any blood.

Sardar Patel was far ahead of Pt. Nehru in advocacy and he had got the first place among the students of the entire British Empire. He is globally famous as the ‘Iron Man of India’ for his great contribution to the integration of India.

He died on 15 December 1950, and the whole of India suffered such a loss that it could never regain. The Government of India honored Sardar Patel with Bharat Ratna in 1991. On his birth anniversary on 31st October, the whole nation pays homage to him with its spirit.
