He was at second position in all his seven siblings. Bhagat Singh completed his primary schooling in his village and later took admission in Dayanand Anglo Vedic School situated in Lahore. He further left this school as the result of boycotting to study in government-aided schools and took admission in the National College at Lahore that was established by Lala Lajpat Rai. He was very brilliant in studies and used to read about the great personalities of the world. His role model was Kartar Singh Sarabha, the founder of the Ghadar Party.  Subhas Chandra Bose had stated that he was an inspiration for the youth of the nation.
