Today there are many hi-tech machines developed because of the presence of computers. It is difficult for us to live without computers as they have become the necessity of our life. In other words, we can say that computers have become an integral part of our lives. Its presence is required in almost every sector.

Short and Long Paragraphs on Supercomputer

I think that you all have heard about the supercomputer that is the fastest among all the computers.  It is a very important topic for students of class 6th-12th, college, and competitive exam aspirants. I have provided some short and long paragraphs with elaborated details of the topic. I hope that it would be beneficial to all the readers and students in getting an idea of writing paragraphs, essays, projects and assignments on this topic.

Paragraph 1 – 100 words (The Real Meaning of Supercomputer)

Computers are electronic machines that help us in making our work faster and easier. The word Supercomputer itself means the advanced version of a general computer with high computation speed. It is regarded as a computer with more enhanced working speed and storage capacity. It is capable of performing several calculations in a spark of seconds. It is because the working speed of these computers is a thousand times the speed of an ordinary computer. The working speed of supercomputers is measured in Floating Points Operation per Second (FLOPS).  Supercomputers, because of it’s greater efficiency and working capacity, are recently being used in several big corporations and industries. They are also utilized in the manufacturing of high-tech machines.

Paragraph 2 – 120 Words (Supercomputers- An Exciting Innovation for the Future)

The use of computers has brought a drastic change in our lives. They are useful in every aspect of life whether it is shopping, traveling, studying, enjoying, research, communication, etc.  It is because the use of computers reduces the effort and time required in doing any of the tasks. Moreover, it is an efficient tool in the field of education. The advent of supercomputers in the 1960s with very high working speed is really a blessing for mankind.  It is composed of a large number of processors, RAM, GPU, CPU, an application capable of computing multiple calculations in a second. It is believed that the use of supercomputers will become common in the coming future. Thus, it will not be wrong to state that supercomputers will be taking the place of common computers in the coming future.

Paragraph 3 – 150 Words (Supercomputers- Thousand Times Efficient than the Normal Computers)

The invention of supercomputers is regarded as the marvelous innovation of creative minds. It is because of its enormous capability of working it has got its name as supercomputers. The normal computers that we use in our daily life are used to make our work easier and faster. We take the help of computers in performing different calculations and tasks that are performed by us in our daily life. The working of supercomputers is totally different from the normal computers that we use in our daily life. Normal computers are capable of doing different tasks one by one but the same is not applicable to supercomputers.

Supercomputers have the capability of performing millions of calculations or tasks at one time. Normal computers work with the concept of serial processing that enables them to perform tasks one by one. On the other hand, supercomputers work with the concept of parallel processing that enables them to perform millions of tasks at one time. This makes supercomputers more efficient than the normal computers we use in our daily life.

Paragraph 4 – 200 Words(Rising Trend of Supercomputers)

The birth of supercomputers is the result of advancements in science and technologies. Its high working speed and enormous storage capacity have made it to become a demanding technology in the present and coming future. Initially, after its invention, it was brought into use in very few sectors but at present, it is being used in different sectors for getting better response and performance.

What is the need for Supercomputers?

We use normal computers or laptops in our daily life for getting assistance in our work. It will not be wrong to say that this technology has now become an integral part of our daily life. When we are having computers to help us in our different jobs then a big question arises ‘What is the need for supercomputers when we have normal computers?’ There are several sectors that require millions of tasks or calculations to be completed at once. This cannot be done by using normal computers and thus here arises the need for supercomputers. A day will arrive that the use of supercomputers will also become as common in daily life as normal computers are at present.

Supercomputer- Profusely used in Scientific Research and Engineering

Supercomputers at present are majorly brought into use in the sector of scientific research and engineering. These sectors require large amounts of calculations to be done at one time. Supercomputers are able to do large computational operations in very little time. Moreover, they are also able to work on a large database of scientific and engineering applications. The use of supercomputers in the scientific and research sector greatly helped these sectors in managing large databases and accuracy in calculations.

Paragraph 5 – 250 Words(An Account on Supercomputer)

The supercomputer is the latest form of a computer with extreme processing power. It is a large computer that is made up of a combination of several computers. The combination of several computers means that there are many processors that make supercomputers capable of doing the task with very high speed. It is extensively brought into use in large-scale industries, weather forecasting, research and development, nuclear industries, molecular modeling, physical simulations, etc.

History of Supercomputer

The first supercomputer came into existence in the 1960s. The credit for designing the first supercomputer named CDC 6600 goes to Seymour Cray. He was an American electrical engineer and a supercomputer architect. This supercomputer had a single processor and was able to perform about 3 million calculations in a spark of seconds. The working speed of the initial supercomputer was comparable to the smartphones at present. The advancement in design and working of supercomputers has been taking place from its advent till the present. Fujitsu Fugaku, IBM Summit, IBM Sierra, NRCPC Sunway Taihulight are the names of the top four supercomputers in the world.

Operating Systems in Supercomputers

The initially developed supercomputers worked on the Unix Operating system. The advancement in technology led to the development of new supercomputers with much-improved processors and high working speeds. The newly developed supercomputers at present are working on Linux operating systems. The choice of operating systems in supercomputers mainly depends upon the requirement of the user. Centos, bullx, Cray Linux are some of the most used operating systems used in Supercomputers.

Supercomputer in India

The supercomputer was originally invented in the world in the 1960s but its advent in India took place in the 1980s. Param 8000, stated as the first supercomputer in India was invented in the year 1991 by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).  A National Supercomputing mission has been initiated in the nation in the year 2015. The vision of launching this seven years mission in the nation was to develop approximately 70 supercomputers in the nation. The NSM project aims to become successful in achieving its objective till 2022.
