The working speed of the initial supercomputer was comparable to the smartphones at present. The advancement in design and working of supercomputers has been taking place from its advent till the present. Fujitsu Fugaku, IBM Summit, IBM Sierra, NRCPC Sunway Taihulight are the names of the top four supercomputers in the world.

Operating Systems in Supercomputers

The initially developed supercomputers worked on the Unix Operating system. The advancement in technology led to the development of new supercomputers with much-improved processors and high working speeds. The newly developed supercomputers at present are working on Linux operating systems. The choice of operating systems in supercomputers mainly depends upon the requirement of the user. Centos, bullx, Cray Linux are some of the most used operating systems used in Supercomputers.

Supercomputer in India

The supercomputer was originally invented in the world in the 1960s but its advent in India took place in the 1980s. Param 8000, stated as the first supercomputer in India was invented in the year 1991 by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).  A National Supercomputing mission has been initiated in the nation in the year 2015. The vision of launching this seven years mission in the nation was to develop approximately 70 supercomputers in the nation. The NSM project aims to become successful in achieving its objective till 2022.
