Every year in the month of November we celebrate this occasion, although it is a festival of Gods, we visit the Ghats and river bodies where Gods unite to celebrate this occasion.
To welcome them we put diyas and offer prayers. There were lots of deities as well as demons on earth. A demon naming Tripura irritated people on earth and also killed many innocent faces as a result people of Kashi prayed to lord Shiva. Then lord Shiva killed the demon on the auspicious day of Kartik Poornima. After this, all the other deities performed aarti of Lord Shiva and his son Kartik.
As per another story in the month of July Lord Vishnu sleeps for few months and then on the occasion of Dev Uthani Ekadashi in the months of Kartika, all deities try their best to wake him up. Once he wakes up, to welcome him all the deities offer aarti with lamps and this is the reason we call this day Dev Diwali.
We can say that it is a day of celebrating the victory as well as a new start. It is an auspicious occasion and people celebrate it. They gather on ghats and light diyas. It is the faith and devotion of people that make this occasion special. This year in 2020 Dev Diwali will be celebrated on the 29th of November, Sunday.
